A 2022 flood event caused erosion to the footings of an existing pedestrian footbridge on Dawson River Walk in Brimbin Nature Reserve near Taree.
The footbridge failed, and the walk has since been closed. A review of environmental factors is required to enable replacement of the footbridge, and a fisheries permit to harm mangroves has been obtained.
The pre-existing structure will be completely removed, enabling more habitat for the regrowth of mangroves and multiple footings along the current span.
A fisheries permit has been obtained and will be adhered to during the demolishing and removal of the current structure and when the new bridge is installed.
The new footings will have minimal impact as a surefoot system will be used to obtain footings at either side of the creek.
The modular components will then be installed over the creek, and revegetation will occur if required.
