The panel provides advice to the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) on matters relating to the identification of the heritage value and the management of sustainable wild horse populations within Kosciuszko National Park.
The panel comprises at least 6 but no more than 8 members who meet the composition requirements and qualifications in Schedule 1 of the Act.
The panel must include at least one Aboriginal person, one representative of the community from the locality around Kosciuszko National Park and other persons who have expertise and experience in one or more of the following:
- recreational planning and management (including horse riding)
- horse or other animal welfare management
- alpine tourism planning and management
- community involvement in conservation.
In accordance with the Act, the Minister for Environment and Heritage appoints panel members and a Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson.
