Trinkey State Conservation Area is located approximately 12 kilometres east of Tambar Springs, and 41 kilometres south-west of Gunnedah. The park forms part of a chain of reserves stretching the length of the Brigalow Belt South and Nandewar bioregions. It provides some connectivity in a highly cleared and fragmented landscape between the larger reserved lands to the west such as Warrumbungle National Park and the Pilliga conservation reserves, and the Liverpool Range to the south.
