Progress
Exterior works to the building are complete with timber battened screens now installed. These have been painted in alternating colours to reference the surrounding scenery and heritage buildings, and screened exterior walls allow for natural light and ventilation
NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service staff from the Sydney North Area have sourced and propagated plants that are local to the headland. Native vegetation will be planted on the roof and around the building to enable it to better blend in with the natural landscape. This planting will be done towards the end of summer.
Finishing works, safety fencing, irrigation and revegetation of the surrounds are the final works to be completed. The scheduled opening has been revised to early 2025 to allow these works to be safely completed.
The temporary toilets are still available for visitors to use during this time.
As part of the project, important maintenance works have also been undertaken to the Barrenjoey access trail to improve public access and safety. These works included the importation of approximately 60 tonnes of crushed sandstone materials to level and fill uneven sections of the trail.
