The impacts of the 2019–20 wildfires on koala populations in northern NSW was a significant concern to land managers and the wider community.

The aims of this study were to assess the impacts of the wildfires on koala populations and provide information on the post-fire presence and/or absence of koalas in areas previously occupied by koalas. This information will help conservation planners and park managers to prioritise post-fire management and conservation of koala populations.
