Urban salinity is recognised as a problem in western Sydney with the potential to affect large areas of new development in the near future.

To a lesser extent salinity is identified as a problem only in the Hunter Region coal mining areas of the Manning and Karuah basins and the southern tableland areas around Braidwood and Goulburn

.

The audit found that in general salinity is not considered an issue for the coastal regions outside of the western Sydney area and the Hunter.
