Hazard reduction burn Oxley Wild Rivers
The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is currently carrying out a large hazard reduction burn in Oxley Wild Rivers National Park, about 40 kilometres from Armidale.
The large 6,000 hectare burn is in the Long Point precinct and is being coordinated with neighbours at Hillgrove.
This cool winter burn is aimed at broadscale fine fuel reduction to reduce the risk of damaging wildfire this summer.
Armidale, Hillgrove, Wollomombi, Enmore and Walcha Areas may see smoke in the area for several days as the hazard reduction operation concludes.
All National Parks and Wildlife Service hazard reduction burns are coordinated with the NSW Rural Fire Service to ensure the impact on the community is assessed at a regional level.
People with known health conditions can sign up to receive air quality reports, forecasts and alerts via email or SMS from the Department of Planning and Environment.
For health information relating to smoke from bush fires and hazard reduction burning, visit the NSW Health website or Asthma Australia.
More information on hazard reduction activities is available at NSW Rural Fire Service and the NSW Government Hazards Near Me website and app.
