The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) has been working hard to recover 220 affected parks, reserves and visitor precincts impacted by Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred in Northern NSW and the Mid-North Coast by clearing roads, removing storm debris, assessing risks and repairing tracks.

Almost 95 per cent of park reserves from the Queensland/New South Wales border to the Hastings River at Port Macquarie will be re-opened in time for the Easter school holidays.

Closures of popular campgrounds over the Easter school holidays include Cod Hole campground in Nymboi-Binderay National Park and Iron Pot Creek campground in Toonumbar National Park.

NPWS is working to reopen partially or entirely closed parks in coming months, as some sites with more extensive damage may take further time to fully repair and recover. There is also a temporary road closure commencing next week preventing access to the boat ramp and sea front at Trial Bay Gaol Campground in Arakoon National Park while works are underway.

Park openings and closure updates are published regularly on the NPWS alerts page at https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/alerts/.

“People planning to visit north coast national parks these Easter school holidays are encouraged to check the NPWS alerts page before planning to visit.

“We want to thank the community for their understanding, patience and cooperation while NPWS staff complete essential recovery work.

“Park visitors are reminded not to attempt to enter closed areas as hazardous conditions may still be present.”
