This master plan seeks to establish the park as a major sustainable visitor destination, delivering economic, social and community benefits for the Lithgow region. It is focused on balancing sustainable recreational and commercial use with natural and cultural values, while enhancing biodiversity and conservation outcomes across the Gardens of Stone State Conservation Area.
The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) has prepared an access strategy for Gardens of Stone State Conservation Area to provide a framework for safe and sustainable vehicle access in accordance with the park's plan of management and the Vehicle Access Policy.
The park is located approximately 5 kilometres north of Lithgow and 140 kilometres west of Sydney at the junction of the Great Dividing Range and the Blue Mountains Range in the NSW Central Tablelands region. It adjoins Blue Mountains National Park to the east and Wollemi National Park and Gardens of Stone National Park to the north.
The draft master plan for the Gardens of Stone State Conservation Area sits within the framework provided by the draft plan of management and outlines a range of proposals for visitor management and infrastructure improvements.
