This document is the pest management strategy for the Western Rivers Region, which stretches from Bathurst in the east to Balranald in the west, and from north of Cobar to south along the Murray River from Corowa to Swan Hill, covering 24% of NSW. It includes major stretches of the Lachlan, Murrumbidgee, Edward and Murray Rivers.
The Central Mallee Reserves cover 248,435 hectares and are located about halfway between Griffith and Cobar in Central-West NSW on Ngiyampaa Country. They are significant as the largest mallee remnant in the NSW reserve system and provide important habitat for mallee specialist plants and animals. Research conducted in these reserves over many years contributes to the understanding and management of semi-arid landscapes throughout Australia.
The Central Mallee Reserves are made up of Yathong Nature Reserve, Nombinnie Nature Reserve, Nombinnie State Conservation Area and Round Hill Nature Reserve. Together these reserves protect the largest mallee woodland and shrubland remnant in New South Wales and provide habitat for mallee specialist plants and animals.
